His Excellency the Governor has the honour to present for the consideration of the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council the items (Nos. 112 and 114 of 1934) of supplementary expenditure set out below.

Owing to the unusually heavy medical expenses incurred by the unpassed Cadets at Canton who are entitled to free medical treatment the amount provided in the Estimates has proved insufficient, and a supple- mentary vote for $200 is requested.

The above is to be met from savings under 2, Colonial Secretary's Office, 4, Hansard Reports (1934 Estimates page 14 sub-head 4).

Owing to the increased number of meetings held in the Council Chamber and the frequent dull weather during the summer which necessitated the increased use of electric light in the offices the amount provided in the Estimates has proved insufficient and a supplementary vote for $200 is requested.

The above is to be met from savings under 2, Colonial Secretary's Office, 2, Cleaning of Offices (1934 Estimates page 14 sub-head 2).

112.-20, Police Force :-Special Expenditure:-Traffic Lights

In 1933 the Finance Committee approved of a sum of $14,060 for the erection of Electromatic Traffic Signals. Of this amount, $2,200 was expended in 1933 and the balance of $11,800 lapsed as the apparatus was not paid for until 1934,

The work has now been completed at a total cost of $9,460 and a re-vote of the amount $7,200 expended this year is requested.
